Ricketts Glen Waterfalls / Steamtown Fall Colors
Photo Workshop

Weekend Nature Photography Workshop / Tour
For Beginner to Advanced photographers
October 16-18, 2015

CANCELLED for 2015

With Photo Help Group admins - Eric Dresser, Carl Heilman II, Michael Lawrence, Nick Palmieri, MA Bassa
Based at the Quality Inn Conference Center, Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania

Join the Photo Help group administrators for a weekend photographing the beautiful waterfalls and cascades of Pennsylvania's Ricketts Glen State Park during the peak of fall colors. This National Natural Landmark has 22 named waterfalls ranging up to 94 feet in height, cascading along the trails among hillsides covered with old growth trees. While the Ricketts Glen waterfalls, wetlands, wildlife, and lakes are the main attraction, there are additional locations including Steamtown USA in Scranton, with possible behind the scenes photo ops. This weekend workshop is open to anyone. You don't have to be a Photo Help Page member to attend.
The workshop numbers are limited to a max of 8 per leader for each of the morning, afternoon, and evening shoots. This instructor ratio will allow more time for interaction with participants so leaders can better address individual questions and concerns.
There are endless photo ops all around. We'll travel by car to the trailheads, plus do some short hikes to explore nearby lakes, streams, and waterfalls. With the moon nearing its first quarter, there may be some great night photo opportunities, too. This will be a great weekend to pick up new shooting tips and hone your landscape photo techniques.

MA Bassa is a Photo Help group admin, educator, and artist. She will be along to answer questions, perhaps work with a few people, and help facilitate the weekend events.

He has written and photographed for several coffee table books and 3 internationally published landscape photo how-to books, and has been leading photography workshops for over 20 years.

Nick believes photography is an art that comes from within and stresses the importance of bridging the technical and creative aspects of the photographic process.

Ricketts Glen / Steamtown Workshop Information and Lodging

This 3 day, 2 night weekend workshop / tour is a wonderful opportunity to meet other landscape photographers and photograph with a select group of instructors at Ricketts Glen State Park , the Steamtown National Historic Site, and perhaps other locations in the Wilkes Barre / Scranton area.

You are welcome to bring along non-participating spouses or friends that want to enjoy the experience, but won't be participating in the workshop.

This workshop is rated EASY / MODERATE and is for beginner to advanced photographers. Most of the photography shoots will have reasonably easy access. We'll be travelling by vehicle / carpooling from Wilkes Barre to get to each location, plus doing some walking over moderately steep, rocky terrain. Each set of photo tours will have at least one with easier access with minimal walking from the trailhead, while others will require more strenuous hiking. Please be prepared with proper gear for hiking and potential weather changes for yourself and your equipment. A compact umbrella can be real helpful to protect gear while photographing in moody, misty or rainy conditions.

A maximum of 8 participants per leader allows plenty of opportunities for participant / instructor interaction during the workshop.

The workshop fee ($195 by 8/31 or $245. on 9/1 and after) includes all instruction, guiding, and any workshop handouts, but does not include transportation, lodging, park entrance fees, or meals other than refreshments provided for the Friday evening meeting.

Lodging has been set aside at the Quality Inn at $69 per night for workshop attendees. There is also an adjacent Fairfield Inn, Wilkes Barre, PA.
