We offer a variety of nature photography workshops throughout the year. Each day long photo workshop will be limited to groups of 6 participants for optimum individual attention (5 day workshop limited to 12). Subjects covered can include digital workflow, wide angle, macro, and panoramic nature photography techniques and composition, digital darkroom work and printing, and 4 color printing and publishing. There are links to each of these photo workshops on this page - along with registration information, equipment suggestions, and a listing of nearby accomodations. We will keep everyone on our mailing list posted with any updates or new programs when we list them. The comprehensive and intensive Photoshop for Photographers workshops are designed for individual attention and to maximize the amount of information and techniques we can cover in a one day workshop in a pleasant working environment. These Photoshop workshops are limited to 3 persons each and are based in the Wild Visions, Inc.office at Carl's home in Brant Lake, NY in the southeastern corner of the Adirondack Park. Please note - for folks with allergies - we have four cats in the house which can be kept out of the area we do the Photoshop workshops in. If you are very sensitive to cats this could still be an issue for you... While photographers of all levels can benefit from our experiential nature photography workshops, we ask that each participant understands basic camera techniques, and is familiar with their own photographic equipment. The informal photography workshop schedules are designed around the best natural lighting of the day for the field sessions, and will provide for time to experiment with the cameras with different subjects throughout the day. Unless otherwise specified each of these photo workshops will be based at Carl's home in Brant Lake.
Each of the nature photography workshops are graded according to the physical demands of the workshop. 'EASY' workshops will include some hiking over gentle terrain for perhaps a mile or so, or maybe some easy canoeing or walking, or gentle bushwhacking. A 'MODERATE' workshop will include carrying camera gear on hikes of about 3 miles over some terrain with elevation changes of around 1000 feet - or canoeing distances of several miles - or some moderate bushwhacking to reach unique photo locations. A 'STRENUOUS' workshop will include hikes of 3 to 5 miles or more with elevation changes of 1500 to 3000 feet - such as climbing in the High Peaks region - or some rather strenuous bushwhacking - or longer canoeing excursions - or a combination of the above. It is recommended that you are in top physical condition to participate in a 'Strenuous' workshop - able to run several miles or more at least 3 times a week - or accustomed to hiking in the higher mountains. No matter what your physical or photographic capabilities are, the best part is the time spent out in the natural world learning and practicing new or different photography techniques in the field while experiencing some of the best light of the day. While we strive to provide a safe educational experience, the main object of the workshops is FUN and finding ways to keep photography both challenging and enjoyable! We look forward to photographing with you. Carl's brings over 30 years of photo experience and enthusiasm for many different aspects of photography to each workshop. He began working with a Nikon digital SLR in spring of 2006 and thoroughly enjoys the additional freedom a digital camera provides. He has presented nature photography workshops in the Adirondack Park region for the Adirondack Mountain Club, Adirondack Life, the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts, and the Lower Adirondack Region Arts Council since the early 1990's. He has been working with Photoshop since 1997 and has been leading photography workshops since 1990. His daughter, Greta, who works full time with Photoshop, has been instructing the Photoshop classes since 2002. Carl has also done snowshoe making presentations and snowshoeing workshops for museums, mountain clubs, schools, and other organizations throughout the country since 1981. We expect to be leading the same - or similar photography workshops each year at approximately the same time periods. As any new dates are confirmed, we'll be adjusting them on our schedule. Please check each photo workshop listing for more information about each workshop. It's good to sign up early! The workshops often fill up well ahead of time. We can also schedule private photography or Photoshop workshop sessions for those interested in individual attention and more advanced techniques.
