Photo Tour - Grasse River Waterfalls - Full Moon

One Day Grasse River Waterfalls Photography Tour
Register through The Wild Center, Tupper Lake

Rated Easy
12 PM - 8 PM
Sunday August 10, 2014
Along a 16 mile length of the Tooley Road in the NW corner of the Adirondack Park is easy access to a half dozen beautiful waterfalls. While this byway is off the beaten path, it's a great location to spend a day or more exploring and photographing the various waterfalls and cascades along the beautiful Grasse River. On the evening of Aug 10, the full moon will rise in evening light about 20 minutes before the 8:05 PM sunset.
While the water flow in August will probably not be as dramatic as when photos I took these in June, there should be lots of wonderful options for photographing the falls, cascades, and river, as well as various details and scenes in the forest. All types of lenses could be used from macro / extension tubes to wide angle and telephoto. Be sure to bring a good sturdy tripod, extra memory cards, and batteries. Also, please bring an umbrella and wet weather protection in case there may be showery conditions.
This nature photography tour is designed for those who are already comfortable with camera basics such as the relationship between aperture, shutter, and ISO settings. During this 8 hour day we will start out with a very brief introduction / discussion and then will have the rest of the time to shoot and experiment with photo techniques in the field.

While the day is scheduled to end at 8 PM, I may stay longer if conditions look good for photographing the rising full moon, as well as photographing the landscape under the moonlight, and will scout locations for these photo opportunities.

Photographer, Carl Heilman, has been photographing the Adirondacks since the mid 1970's and has been working with digital image files since 1997. He has led photo workshops since the early 1990's and has been presenting photography workshops in Brant Lake since 1997 through Wild Visions, Inc. His coffee table books on the Adirondacks, Lake George, New York State, and Maine have been published by Rizzoli, Voyageur Press, and North Country Books. His AV programs have aired on regional PBS stations, and he was interviewed for the May 2008 national PBS special, 'The Adirondacks'. His most recent books, Photographing the Adirondacks, 101 Top Tips for Digital Landscape Photography, and The Landscape Photography Field Guide, cover the full spectrum of landscape photography techniques.
This nature photography tour is rated EASY - While one of the falls is along the road, there are short hikes of roughly 1/4 to 1/2 mile to each of the others, except Copper Rock Falls which is about 3/4 mile to the falls and gorge. The trails are pleasant footpaths with minimal elevation change, with just a little 'Adirondack mud' in a couple of spots on one trail.

A maximum of 8 participants, allows plenty of opportunities for individual interaction throughout the day on the different photo shoots.

The Wild Center workshop fee includes all instruction and any handouts - but does not include lodging or meals. Please bring along whatever you would like for food and drink through the day.

We look forward to photographing with you and working with you on this nature photography tour.
