Early light and moonset over the Adirondack High Peaks

Cascade Mountain has perhaps one of the finest 360 degree views in the Adirondacks for photography with a panoramic camera. I've made numerous trips to the top, in many different conditions - trying to photograph just the right combination of light and composition. I've been up to photograph in both the morning light, and the evening light, and each sets off the view in its' own special way.

Dawn is a special time as the sun breaks over the horizon, and begins to light up the mountains one by one. The soft, diffused light that came through the clouds on this mid-March, 2000 morning, helped give definition to all of the detail in the shadows. The moon that was a couple of days past full, slowly sinking in the western sky, was a bonus.
