We spent some time in SW Montana, in the mountains just north of Yellowstone, exploring and enjoying the wild and varied scenery. While setting up to photograph the one evening, a localized thunderstorm came overhead, followed by a clearing sky. We soon were enjoying a beautiful rainbow over the field of flowers with rain showers still falling to the east. I wasn't quite prepared to take the pictures I would have liked to, but I was prepared as similar conditions began to show the next evening. We drove to a long ledge along one of the dirt roads, and set up as the rains were passing overhead. As the showers passed over the Madison River Valley, the setting sun highlighted the showers and clouds with beautiful pink tones. Some faint rainbow colors below the clouds glowed briefly off in the distance before the sun dropped below the horizon. |
