Full Moon Weekend

Two Day Nature Photography Workshop / Tour
$390. up to 30 days before, then $450.

Rated Moderate
Saturday 10 AM to Sunday 3 PM, March 15-16, 2014
On Saturday evening of this workshop, as the sun sets in the evening, the full moon will rise in optimal lighting conditions to photograph it within the landscape. Sunday morning may provide another opportunity to photograph the full moon as it sets in the west while the sun rises in the east. In addition we will do some night photography under the moonlight, as well as travel to photograph a variety of locations during the day, including lakes, streams, mountain vistas, waterfalls, and cascades.
March is still winter in the Adirondacks. It's often our snowiest month, and winter photography conditions are sometimes the best of the season. Depending on the weather, destinations could range up to about an hour away with locations ranging from the High Peaks / Champlain Valley region, to Lake George, Indian Lake, or the Raquette Lake area. All types of lens equipment could be used for different situations including macro lenses and extension tubes, and wide angle and telephoto lenses.
This nature photography workshop / tour is designed for advanced beginners, intermediate and advanced photographers who are reasonably comfortable with camera basics such as the relationship between aperture, shutter, and ISO settings. During this weekend we will start out on Saturday at 10 AM with an introduction / discussion / Powerpoint, and then will have most all day to play with photo techniques in the field. One of the main goals of the weekend is photographing the full moon, so we'll find a nice location to do moonrise / twilight photos. Saturday evening moon rise is 6:48 PM and sunset is 7:01 PM. Sunday morning, the moon will set at 6:48 AM, a few minutes before the sun rises at 7:05 AM. We'll photograph through the morning ojn Sunday, and then return to the classroom around noon, to go through images, answer questions, and critique images before wrapping up about 3 PM.
Photographer, Carl Heilman, has been photographing the Adirondacks since the mid 1970's and has been working with digital image files since 1997. He has led photo workshops since the early 1990's and has been presenting photography workshops in Brant Lake since 1997 through Wild Visions, Inc. His coffee table books on the Adirondacks, Lake George, New York State, and Maine have been published by Rizzoli, Voyageur Press, and North Country Books. His AV programs have aired on regional PBS stations, and he was interviewed for the May 2008 national PBS special, 'The Adirondacks'. His photo techniques book, The Landscape Photography Field Guide (2011 Focal Press), is a comprehensive handbook about landscape photography techniques. Photographing the Adirondacks (2013 Countryman Press), is a regional guidebook to more than 200 photo locations throughout the Adirondack Park.
This nature photography workshop is rated MODERATE - most of the photography will be reasonably close to the road, but a couple of the possible locations would require walking over rather rough and rocky terrain, with a hike of up to about a mile and climb of up to several hundred feet in elevation.

A maximum of 6 participants, allows plenty of opportunities for individual interaction throughout the day on the different photo shoots.

The workshop fee includes all instruction and handouts - but does not include lodging or meals. Please bring along whatever you would like for food and drink through the day. We will carpool to photo locations and stop for meals as we travel.

We look forward to photographing with you and working with you on this nature photography tour.
Please contact us with any questions!
This workshop is based at out Brant Lake home office. There will be full info in an Email to participants with all of the workshop information a few days ahead.
